Way Too Early Reaction: The Phillies Look Great

I forgot what a bullpen looked like.

We’re just kicking off the 2021 MLB season and I’m full mast.

The Philadelphia Phillies look pretty good. I know I’m jinxing it but, through two games, I’m ready for season tickets and I’m not sure we ever need the DH.

National League forever.

Opening Day started with a Phillies bullpen holding a lead. That’s no typo, folks. Against all odds, Philadelphia didn’t blow a game that eventually resulted in free baseball.

Extra innings ended with Didi Gregiorious being intentionally walked so a perturbed Jean Segura could finish the job. Not a bad way to start a season.

Then today, Zach Wheeler opted for no mercy.

Ten strikeouts, seven innings and two RBIs later, the Phillies once again had to turn to their bullpen. We all held our breath.

Then Archie Bradley and Hector Neris struck out four combined over two innings. That was it.

The Phillies had won the series and I could hear my friends in Atlanta cursing my name. They’ll go to bed thinking about me.

I know we’re pretty early on here, but I have a lot of warmth in my heart through two games.

For my early reaction, I’ll throw to Segura.

I think it’ll be a Phine year.
